Trio Ethio Blues & Bass
Ethiopian diva Etenesh Wassie began singing in the azmaribèt cabarets of Addis Ababa in the early 90s, becoming known for her daring improvisations.
Since 2007 she has been collaborating with the French bass guitarist, Mathieu Sourisseau, merging contemporary energies from jazz to punk with Wassie’s deep knowledge of the Ethiopian repertoire. The duo has recently been strengthened with the addition of the double bassist Sebastien Bacquias, whose bow playing is reminiscent of the messenqo, the traditional Ethiopian violin.
Etenesh’s powerful and resonant voice, coupled with the Mathieu and Sebastien’s virtuosity, make for a compelling and captivating performance.
